Horror Short Film “The Cleansing Hour” to be featured at Sitges and Napa Valley Film Festival

LOS ANGELES, CA | The short horror film directed by Damien LeVeck, The Cleansing Hour, starring Sam Jaeger (Parenthood, American Sniper), Heather Morris (Glee, Spring Breakers), and Neil Grayston (Daredevil, Eureka) will be featured at SITGES – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia taking place October 7-16 in Sitges, Spain and Napa Valley Film Festival November 9-13 in Napa. Winners of Sitges, the largest fantasy film festival in Europe, qualify for Academy consideration for the Oscars.

“I am honored that The Cleansing Hour will be showcased at both Sitges and Napa and that we will be able show off the culmination of over a year’s worth of work at such extraordinary film festivals,” said LeVeck. “The Cleansing Hour is a fresh take on the exorcism genre that is sure to scare and thrill everyone who’s brave enough to watch.”

Morris echoed LeVeck’s excitement about acceptance into Sitges, saying, “Getting into this festival is really an honor. So many prestige films have been here and it’s amazing to be such a big part of film history.” In previous years, noteworthy filmmakers such as Oliver Stone, Guillermo del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Roland Emmerich, Eli Roth and many others have attended the yearly film festival.

The Cleansing Hour follows Lance (Jaeger) and Drew (Grayston) who run a popular webcast that streams exorcisms staged to look real. When Lance, who plays a priest, unknowingly hires an actress who is actually possessed (Morris), he is forced to reckon with his online charade in front of 20 million viewers worldwide. The film initially premiered at HollyShorts film festival in Hollywood in August.

Napa Valley Film Festival holds a special place in the hearts of LeVeck, Jaeger and Morris, as each attended the festival in 2011, with Jaeger showcasing his feature film “Take Me Home” which LeVeck edited, and Morris exhibiting two short films she directed that LeVeck also edited. They are all looking forward to a formal reunion this November in Napa.

“It’s an honor to return to NVFF as we shared TAKE ME HOME at the inaugural Napa Valley Film Festival in 2011.  My team and I still regard it as the best festival we have ever been to,” Jaeger said.

Morris agreed saying, “I’m so excited Napa has accepted us. I mean it’s a no brainer, obviously. The Cleansing Hour is phenomenally well directed, acted, produced, all of the above and more. But I love coming to this festival because every year it’s a different experience.”

The Cleansing Hour was written by Aaron Horwitz (Roommate Wanted) and also features guitarist Jonny Radtke (Filter, Kill Hannah), YouTube star Teala Dunn (Enchanted, Expelled), John Griffin (Priest, Jersey Boys), and Catherine Marin (The Tequila Sisters, Chimera) in supporting roles. Jesse M. Feldman (American Horror Story, Homeland) is the director of photography and Marylou Lim (Godzilla, Looper) is the costume designer.

Shirit Bradley, who worked on the 2014 summer blockbuster Godzilla and the comedy-horror filmKrampusproduced The Cleansing Hour alongside entertainment attorney, Natalie LeVeck. “From the moment Damien pitched this project to me, I was in. He has such a fun and clear vision and I was thrilled to be a part of his team and produce something that has a larger message,” Bradley said.

The Cleansing Hour is currently being developed into a feature film. LeVeck is repped by Peter Dodd at UTA and Zac Frognowski at Grandview management.
